Katrina Dalgleish - Violin Tutor

Hello and welcome!
My name is Katrina and I'm a violin teacher and musician based in Sudbury, Suffolk. I have a wealth of experience having started teaching in 1985, both privately and in schools, and have become known for my calm and patient demeanour while helping my students achieve their goals on this instrument. Although I mainly teach violin, I have also taught viola, recorder and music theory extensively.
Aside from my experience, I am also well qualified, having studied for my degree at the Roehampton Institute Of Higher Education (now Roehampton University), which was awarded by the University of London. I studied for the L.T.C.L. (Licentiate of Trinity College, London – Teachers Diploma) under Edward (Teddie) Bor in Cambridge. I am also always looking to improve my teaching strategies and learn from others and so regularly partake in teaching courses to stay up to date and learn the latest ideas and methods. The last professional training course I did (as of November 2019) was in July 2019- "Learning to be a Better Music Teacher" -provided by the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music).
My teaching philosophy
My ultimate goal is to make myself redundant! I try to share the enjoyment of the music for itself and to give pupils the tools and confidence to make music and hopefully enjoy practicing! I aim to encourage and to make lessons fun and engaging as well as giving constructive criticism and solutions. I enter pupils for ABRSM exams as and when they are ready to take them, if they want to take them.
Currently I play and perform with the Sudbury Symphony Orchestra. When the opportunity arises I play with other groups and take part in workshops. As well as playing classical music I enjoy playing other styles. I’m a member of “Bow and Bellows” folk band. I am also the music leader at my church All Saints, Sudbury.
